Glad to see they’re still using a ‘69 Charger for the film, I wonder if they’ve still got a Confederate flag painted on the roof. Don’t get me wrong - the stars and bars is the flag of traitors, but that ain’t the General Lee without that flag atop it - and here’s hoping the Dukes haven’t given into political correctness.

Oh, also - why haven’t stupid people learned the difference between a “review” and “plot spoilers”?

I feel the need

First thing this morning, I revived an old tradition that I let die last summer: the Sunday morning drive. No particular reason, just a beautiful day, lots of rural roads to speed on, and - oh yes - the need for speed.

I went up into Jacksonville and burned some rubber on Stockton, Old York, and Manor Roads, then detoured north through Glencoe Road, and came back all quiet like on York Road, stopping at the Giant for milk and pretzels.

I like this tradition.

See, like, people are like, “Dude, why are we getting in trouble?” And like, see, people are like, “Because you’re stupid, insensitive, and you keep friggin’ not understanding something called ‘professionalism’ and ‘decorum’…”

Documents released Friday indicate that after hearing a transmission about the fire, officer John Lengefeld sent a message from his patrol car to fellow officer Josue Martinez that said “burn baby burn.”

Martinez replied that he was laughing, and “Those were my exact thoughts.” Other officers chimed in with more than two hours of messages.

Among those receiving 15-day unpaid suspensions was officer William White, who sent a note that said, “U can smell from (Interstate) 35. It is the smell of victory.”

Dispatcher Susan Negron wrote, “I have some extra gasoline if they need it,” according to the documents, and “My nite is made. I just had a lady ask me if it was burning. I said yep. She was upset. I was enthralled.”

Dispatcher Ashlye Bauerle wrote, “You hear that Midtown is on fire!! The roof of a club. .. That’s funny! Gives a whole new meaning to the roof, the roof is on fire,” the documents said.

Knee called the messages “inappropriate.” All the suspended dispatchers and officers said they regretted their actions and that their messages were intended as jokes. A sixth officer received a written reprimand.

So funny I forgot to have me a laugh.

I don’t really think its any surprise that the Italians are pissed about this:

The freed Italian hostage wounded by American troops at a checkpoint in Baghdad shortly after her release said in an article Sunday that her Iraqi captors had warned her U.S. forces “might intervene.”

Giuliana Sgrena, who writes for the communist newspaper Il Manifesto, described how she was wounded and Italian intelligence officer Nicola Calipari was killed as she was celebrating her freedom on the way to the airport. The shooting Friday has fueled anti-American sentiment in a country where people are deeply opposed to U.S. policy in Iraq.

“I remember only fire,” she said in her article. “At that point a rain of fire and bullets came at us, forever silencing the happy voices from a few minutes earlier.”

Sgrena said the driver began shouting that they were Italian, then “Nicola Calipari dove on top of me to protect me and immediately, and I mean immediately, I felt his last breath as he died on me.”

After all, the US military has a long and proud history of not giving a fuck about the Italians. How much you want to bet that as a result of this shooting the Italians pull their forces from Iraq?
