At the Blogger Happy Hour, Ben mentioned how he noticed I didn’t seem to put up any filter around my work experiences, as he noticed other bloggers did. And I think I replied something to the effect of, “Most of my coworkers don’t even know how to read, much less use the internet.”
That might have been a slight, uh, exaggeration. Actually, I have often times pointed coworkers to this site. “Yeah, dude, Hitchiker’s? I’ve got a link to the trailer on my blog …”
Tonight after dinner rush, Greg and I started talking. He wanted to know how the little get-together went Wednesday night (I was very adamant, that night, that I needed to be clocked out as soon as humanly possible or people would die horrible miserable deaths, and I guess he was a little curious as to why I was so, uh, homicidal), and I told him it was at a bar on 30th street … I tried explaining the whole ‘blogging’ thing to him, but, uh, yeah, he didn’t really get it. “So it’s like a diary, then? I don’t let people read my diary, and I certainly wouldn’t want to meet them!”
*!#^%@!
Anywhere, from there he started telling me about a wedding he’d been at a week prior. “Yeah, it was me, Heather [his wife], and Heather’s cousins …” He proceeded to tell me Heather’s cousin owned a bookstore on 36th street in Hampden, and that they’d driven past there “just the other day” after going to the circus.
36th Street? A bookstore? Wait just a damn minute. “You mean Atomic Books?”
“That’s the one!”
So then I tried to tell him that Atomic Books had a blog. “Why does a bookstore have a diary? I don’t get it.”
*!#^%@!
So we fired up the PC in his office, logged online (dialup? who still uses dialup?!), and I showed him both my blog (”See? This is mine …” “Hey, isn’t that the-other-Greg’s car?” “Yes, yes it is.”), and Atomic Book’s blog (”Hampden Idol? Is that on public TV, or what?”).
*!#^%@!
I still don’t think he’s caught on to the whole ‘blog’ thing — that’s probably a good thing — but what a small world. Who’da thunk it?
