aircraft carrier survives zombie attack

Okay, ideally, if you had all the resources in the world, and you knew that Dawn of the Dead was really going to happen in 48-hours, what would your ideal “safe haven” be and what would you need to keep it going?

For me, an aircraft carrier. Preferably, a modern, nuclear powered aircraft carrier. Why? Because it only needs to be fueled every fifty years. Because it probably has water-processing plants aboard. Because you could convert the flight deck - better idea: the hanger below it (just make sure to leave the exterior bay doors open, and hang lots of UV lamps) - into a pretty good sized farm, if you had enough dirt (not to mention cows, chicken, sheep, and cats).

Leaving the flight deck open would also allow you to keep some planes around - but forget the planes: go with helicopters - a couple of gunships, a Huey or two. You’d only want to be able to blow up zombies on life-rafts, not strafe zombie-laden cities on the continent, anyway. (And what would be the point to that last bit, anyhoo?) Besides, the point would be to modify the carrier to be as self sufficient as possible — there’d be no point to going to land at all. And anyway, as Anonymous CoWorker pointed out, who wants zombies doing the “Pirates of the Carribean” march-across-the-seabed-and-climb-the-anchor thing anyway? Eh?

With luck, your small group of survivors — hell, even if you had 500 survivors, an aircraft carrier is built to house 5,000, so it’d still feel nice n’ roomy — would include some doctors, sailors, mechanics. Y’know, I mean, no internet - which would suck - but you could probably get some cool LAN Starcraft going …
