Watching the Game

Filed under: Uncategorized — MalSnay @ 8:02 pm

… is something I’m not doing, by the way.

I’m not a fan of football. When the Ravens were playing — and I was working — I cared enough to listen to the game on the radio. I didn’t understand much of what was going on. Look, all I know about football I learned from The Replacements, okay?

I’ve got Hill Street Blues in the DVD player, and when I finish the disc, I’m going to watch Seven-Up (and I’ll have a post on that for probably tomorrow). I might clean the dining room, and if I’m feeling up to it, vacuum. I also need to do my jumping-jacks, and I’d like to get another chapter into the book I’m reading.

Greg asked if I was going to watch the game to see the commercials, and I told him that watching a fucking game of a sport I don’t care to follow for the fucking advertisements is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. In a related vein, I also don’t understand people who watch those “The World’s Best Commercials!” specials. Why? Bad enough to watch commercials when they’re on between acts of Battlestar Galactica, but short of being paid to sit down and watch ‘em … no, thanks, better things to do.

If I had TIVO, I’d TIVO the game just so I could watch it and say “Nope, fast forwarded through the commercials” because I like to stick it to the stupid corporate assholes who pay sixty-bah-billion bucks to play a thirty-second commercial during the game because they know even people who don’t look football will be watching so they can watch a highly entertaining adveritsement — I mean, damn! I’ve got DVDs. I’ve got books, CDs, and a ton of Lego. Heck, worst comes to worst, I’ve got my hand (technically speaking, I’ve two hands), my penis, and porn. I’m not so desperate for entertainment I need to watch fucking commercials.

(One day, they’ll put out “The Superbowls’ Best Commercials” showcasing the most awesometastic commercials of the past forty years on DVD and it’ll be the top selling DVD of the decade, you watch)

(See, and if I knew how to get around to producing “The Superbowls’ Best Commercials” on DVD, I’d be a billionaire by this time next year. If you take my idea, please, hook me up with $50k and a Wrangler, huh?)

(Update: I did pay enough attention to the game — via CNN and USA Today — to know that the Steelers won. I think that makes for two happy ex-Pittsburghians here and here).

Geriatric Tackling

Here’s how work broke down on Superbowl Sunday:

Busy during the day, then Greg, the other drivers, and the insiders came in early, it was slow, and I was out shortly after six. I made about $70, which makes for a disappointing Sunday, and a very disappointing Superbowl.

I was watching when all the old MVP geriatrics were making their way across the field (Greg put a tv in the lobby), and I thought it’d make a cool game if they all had to play rough football in their olden years.

“Holy crap, Bret Starr just tackled Joe Natham, ripped his head off, and passed it to Lynn Swann!”

It’d sure make the game more interesting.
