snowed in

The snow’s really sticking now, so while it’s possible I could’ve made it to a party I’d said I’d get to, I really wouldn’t care to make the trip back. I’m bored out of my mind — there’s a lot of stuff I can do, should do, but instead I’ve been sitting at the computer (bored), flipping through the tv stations (bored), and practicing tying ties (bored).

This afternoon, I called out from the franchise for tonight. They were surprised I was calling out, because I wasn’t scheduled. But, hey, I wanted to make sure they didn’t call me to come in.

Depending on how bad the situation is tomorrow, I might call out. Chewbacca’s already agreed to cover my shift if it comes to it. The problem is that while I’m sure most of the major roads will be plowed, a lot of the side streets in the rural area of Baltimore and Harford County that is the franchise’s delivery area are often not cleared as quickly or completely as I like. In addition, a lot of folks out that way have unpaved, long driveways. Even if I do go in, I’ll only do so on the condition of being out by five so I can get home before the melting snow freezes.

I don’t like driving in the snow, or the after-effects of snow. The income just isn’t worth it, particularly if I should — gosh forbid — die as a result of skidding out on a patch of ice, or worse, someone else skidding out on a patch of ice and hitting me and crushing me. Then they’d get out of their truck and ask “What did I just hit?” and they wouldn’t see me because my Toyota would be wedged between their front tires. Jerk!

The best part of Magnolia is when Jim comes back to visit Claudia and she’s in bed. No dialogue, just wonderfulicity.

BSG 2×16 “Sacrifice”

I tell you what, even though these half-seasons are two and a half months long, they sure do fly by quickly. After tonight, only four episodes remain before the second seasons ends its run, and while it’ll be a few long months to the premiere of the third this summer, I’m sure before too long it will again be September and the first half of the third season will be ending and I’ll be writing a similarly long-winded and pointless paragraph on it. Assuming, of course, that I’m still doing these episode recaps. Does anyone read these?

**

If you just started reading this, beware that I’m happy-happy-fun-fun on the use of spoilers for this episode, and previous episodes of the series. You. Have. Warned. Been.

How pissed is Bill Adama at Starbuck? First, she decides because she like’s his younger son’s penis so much she’ll pass him at Basic Viper Flight which, long story short, is what kills him. Now she pulls the trigger that puts a bullet in his older son’s chest. Actually, I think he got over his anger at Zak’s death, and frankly, the circumstances surrounding Lee’s shooting was such that I don’t think much could have been done differently. A tragic accident, yes, but not of Starbuck’s making.

Ellen Tigh. One word: worthless. It’s like she’s deliberately trying to get as many people as possible killed. Y’know, if I didn’t hate the “so-and-so is a cylon” speculation so much, I’d jump on the “Ellen is a cylon!” bandwagon right, oh, last year sometime.

I’ve gotta admit that I really enjoy seeing the human enemies of the fleet, almost more than I do the Cylon enemies of the fleet. Right now we’ve had essentially three major bad “human” groups pop up in the last few episodes — the super left-wing “peace with Cylons” crowd, the black-market folk, and the right-wing paranoid wingnuts featured tonight. I hope these are groups we contine to have interactions with.

Y’know, I’m just totally befuddled right now.

To quickly summize the plot: crazy lady loses her husband in a Cylon attack, and begins piecing together information from the fleet’s media that Galactica has a Cylon model of Sharon Valerii aboard. She and a group of like minded compatriots use force to hold the occupants of a bar on Cloud Nine hostage. Among the hostages are Ellen Tigh, Lee “Apollo” Adama, Dualla, and Billy. Kara “Starbuck” Thrace, also on Cloud Nine, and a group of vacationing Marines, attempt a rescue during which Lee is shot — Kara is pretty sure she pulled the trigger on that one — and the situation continues to spiral downwards.

When Billy went to propose to Dualla, I knew that the episode was going to involve them both held hostage by an group of anti-Cylon wingnuts. I knew that Lee Adama was going to badly injured in the episode. And as Billy gave Dualla his debate team ring, I was quite certain two things were going to happen: she was going to say yes, and he was going to die.

I was right about one thing, and Dualla chose that scene to break up with Billy because right now she’s bangin’ Galactica’s CAG, and as prestigious as being the President’s right-hand-man is, flying big penises with wings is like, so, totally cooler.

Billy? You had to go and kill BILLY? Yes, I know there was a possibility the actor was going to be going to work on a different series — and I guess this confirms it — but, Billy? C’mon, the hometown guy suddenly catapulted into incredible situations as the President’s right-hand-man? Why’d you have to kill BILLY?
