Cleaning Holiday

Wasted. Totally wasted.

Oh, I pulled all my books, DVDs, toys, and junk off the shelves in the living room and dining room, and I washed those shelves and put most things back where I found ‘em. I vaccumed the carpet. But in terms of accomplishing what I intended to, I completely one hundred percent failed. The kitchen remains largely untouched. The dining room table is buried under newspapers, advertisements, and credit card offers. The bathroom floor still needs to be scrubbed clean of stray litter. As for the bedrooms, well, I’ve never really worried about cleaning them, which is pretty pathetic right there. Then again, maybe I’ll find some starry-eyed freshman who likes older guys. (SCORE!)

I went out to return Neckbone’s key to him, but he and his family weren’t home. I detoured past Target and WalMart for cleaning supplies, but both were closed. Giant was open, and I thought I got everything I needed, but I forgot milk and to fill my gas tank, so I decided to go out again after making myself lunch. When I went out the second time, I swung by Neckbone’s again to see if he was home yet — he was, and after begging for mercy for the other night, I mistook a jug of margarita for lemonade, chased Pila around the furniture, agreed to help him move boxes after settling, and sold Ice Queenie on her next vehicle: a four-door Wrangler Unlimited. Damn, now if only I’d gotten the Jeep Dealership job. (Don’t worry, I’m becoming more excited about my upcoming semester). After this, I returned home, remembered I needed milk, and went out a third time, finally returning with two jugs of milk.

Then I remembered I’d forgotten to fill up my gas tank. But, not wanting to go out a fourth time for fear I’d drive to the gas station and forget why I was there, I put in a Netflix selection — the seemingly straight to DVD Keira Knightley film in which she plays Domino Harvey, the bounty-hunter daughter of the deceased movie-star Lawrence Harvey. Surfing the net tonight, I learned that the real Domino Harvey died last June. The movie, in my humble opinion, was pretty atrocious.

I found a fourth class to register for the upcoming semester. It fulfills one of my remaining requirements (the other two being an English author-specific course, and an English class on the structure of the language) It is COSC 321 — “Computerization & Its Impact.” The course description barely elaborates: Computer technology and its social and economic impacts on organizations and individuals. I’m really hoping this is what it sounds like — more of a sociological perspective on computers, perhaps with a bit of history thrown in, rather than anything requiring me to know more than my very basic computer skills. I mean, it sounds like it should be what I’m looking for, but …

… on the other hand, the COSC class is being offered the floor above Bateman’s campus location, so depending on how completely bewildered I am, at least I won’t be far from being drunkenly bewildered.

(I’m disappointed because I’d wanted to take a class on the development of cities and suburbs to fulfill this requirement, but it isn’t being offered this semester, and I’m unwilling to take the chance that it might be offered next.)
