BSG 3×11 - “The Eye of Jupiter”

Filed under: Uncategorized — MalSnay @ 10:04 am

In a nutshell: harvesting algae, Chief Tyrol locates a remenant of the 13th Tribe’s passage to Earth: a temple containing the “Eye of Jupiter”, which legend holds will find the path for Earth. Things get complicated when the Cylons arrive with a proposal: allow them Eye of Jupiter, and they will leave the Rag Tag Fleet alone — they’ll also throw Baltar in. As the situation deteriorates, and communication between the men on the ground (with Cylon centurions marching in) and the Fleet in orbit are jammed, the episode ends with Starbuck’s Raptor shot down, Anders being held at gunpoint by Sgt. Hadrian, and Bill Adama following through on his threat against the Cylons and launching nukes to annihilate both the Temple, and the people left below …

So, that plot summary out of the way: what an asstard is Lee Adama? First, he takes Dee away from Billy, and then Billy gets killed, and now that Dee’s his wife, he’s looking to stick his Lee Junior into Starbuck, who is also married. Also, what the fuck is wrong with Starbuck? “I made a vow” … y’know, if she was so religious, I’m sure the Gods of the Colonists frown on pre-marital sex too, and that never stopped her. Besides, if her vow is so important to her, why isn’t she actually trying to make things work with Anders?

This episode has convinced me that, at least in the reality of this fictional universe, the Gods really do exist — there’s no other explanation for the sequence of events that lead Tyrol to the Temple. You could argue that the Cylons found the planet because they were tracking Galactica, but I tend to think that there is a “higher power” at work — or, since the Colonists aren’t monotheists, “higher powers”, to be more precise.

I was under the impression that Bill Adama knew Hera was alive. This would seem to be not the case. Or, perhaps, I got the wrong impression from the scene where he and Laura discuss the situation, and he did know. I need to rewatch whatever episode Hera is born in again …

What a smack-bang cliffhanger! I thought the Pegasus mid-season break would be tough to resolve, I really can’t imagine how they’re going to handle this one. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long — the mid-season break is a month long, and the show is moving to a new night and time: Sunday at 10pm when it returns January 21st. There’s been some grumbling over the blogosphere about this, but all it really means for me is that I can work later on Friday night since I won’t be arranging my schedule to be home in time to watch the show.

Alexander

The KSS Alexander, exterior and interior. From the builder’s blog, ” it’s the biggest thing I’ve built and 76 studs and it suffers; part supplies ran low, and that created some rough areas. On top of that, I’ve never really build a minifig scale ship to house more than one person, so it was building in an entirely new field. I do like how it turned out, it looks like a sub and that’s all I was really going for.”

I really love this little ship. It’s got a unique, cutting design that calls to mind both a submarine and a coast guard cutter. The spase use of a variety of colors makes it functional — if brightly colored for a pirate ship (notice the skull & crossbones flying) — and I love the antenna greebling on the ship’s conning tower. If I have one complaint it is that the interior seems sparsed — a ship this small with such a (relatively) large crew should feel cramped inside, yet the compartments seem (again, relatively) spacious. All in all, a great minifig scale ship!

Also: check out his space Corsair too. It’s a spacey version of the classic WWII fighter.
