I’m tempted to write the following and leave it on my neighbor’s across-the-hall door:
Dear Neighbors,
Shut the dog up or I’m calling [Landlord Corp.].
-Your (Very Annoyed) Neighbor
See, dogs aren’t allowed in this complex.

coming from someone who had a dog at a townhome I wasn’t allowed to… you keep it quiet and in hiding. And I would’ve never done in at an apartment building.
barking?? tell the landlord! Leave an anonymous letter!

I would absolutely do that. If they’re not allowed, they’re not allowed and for this very reason.

I think you’re going to need to have that dog surgically removed from your ass.
Just kidding. It’s worth a try. What else can you do? At least you’re giving them a chance before going to the landlord.

Do you live where I live?
Damn dog. I try to keep her quiet when I get home.

Leave the note. That person is probably not a good dog owner, anyway. Dogs will, usually, only bark endlessly if they are bored. Theres something for you at my place, btw….rudimentary by your standards, I’m sure….but I thought it was cool.

You can also call the city who will after two calls slap them with a nice $150 fine or so for everytime they have to come out there because the pets are too loud, you can get the citations and quote them and really be on their good side. I’ve had to do that once before and it resolved the situation immediately.

Has your apartment been broken into lately? No? Then the dog is obviously doing a good job. Get some earmuffs.
But seriously, people are psychos (just look at your regular commenters ;-) so your nice gesture to quietly give them a chance could backfire and make you a target. As such, I would take the safer route and anonymously report it to the landlord.

Just call the landlord. If it is loud enough to bother you then certainly other tenants hear it too.
I’ve no patience for fuckwad neighbors anymore.

There is a neighborhood dog named Jesse who is an agreeble sort of hound during the daytime. At night, though, it’s a different story. Ever since she was attacked by coyotes, she patrols the neighborhood howling her little head off. She seems to especially feel the need to keep watch in our front yard. It’s maddening.

I have too many dogs to comment.

I’ve got three dogs, and we live in a house, with a large, fenced yard, and I never, ever, have let them bark on and on without end. As soon as we hear them bark at a neighbor, we bring them inside. Inconsiderate dog owners are a pain in the ass. Inconsiderate dog owners who aren’t even allowed to have dogs in the first place are even worse. Leave the note. Anonymous, if you want to, but leave it.

I just find the contrast between the “bugger off” nasty content of the letter…and the blog post asking people their opinions, well, funny.

That’s better than setting out a bowl of antifreeze.

Oh I can so relate to your dilemma. My nieghbir has a dog that loves to back in the wee hours of the morning. I have reported it to bylaw but it hasn’t helped. I shall try again & hopefully then she will realize how serious I am.
She leaves her dog outside 24/7
Stupid bitch.

Some people shouldn’t be allowed to have pet rocks, let alone dogs. Call the landlord–the commenters who said that a dog who barks on and on isn’t being cared for decently is RIGHT.

I hope you post the results as I have the same problem. Everynight about 11pm a neighbor puts his dog out to bark for about an hour. He does the same thing again about 5am and the entire neighborhood is sick of it.
We have a barking law in my city, so if it keeps up, there is gonna be some trouble!

Call the landlord.
Comment by Robin — January 13, 2007 @ 9:22 am
I would call.
My dogs rarely bark but if they do it’s because they want to go out or they hear the neighbors dogs barking. I live in a single home and although the houses are spread far apart but I know my neighbors don’t want to hear my dogs yapping their little heads off. :-)

[...] Coming home from work today, two yellow notices of eviction were taped to the front door of my building. As I always do, I stopped to look at them to make sure neither were for me. Neither was — in fact, the letter informing me of the pending end of my lease and my options therein arrived yesterday — but I bet you can imagine how gleeful I was to notice that one of the notices was for my neighbors in Apartment D. [...] But if it had been me, the dog who I did this to would be my neighbor’s, and its would’ve gone to them and come with a note which would have said “FINALLY NO MORE BARKING!” « Celica-22 [...]
