guess how much I spent on books and win a prize

I feel like I should be undergoing “blogging withdrawl”, but I think I only checked sitemeter once today. I don’t think I’ve been able to keep with any blog reading, either, and I’m kind of surprised I have time for this post. Anyway, long story long, tonight was the last day of Shakespeare class. Tomorrow is the final. I got back two of my five quizzes, and was very happy with the grades — 16/20 and 19/20 despite both papers being covered in critiques and notes. I’m headed down to Towson tomorrow afternoon — early! — to meet up with a quasi study group at Cook Library. What, me, worried? Yes. I think I’m treating myself to General Tso’s chicken tomorrow night for dinner — I’ll have earned it.

I went in early today as well so I could get my books for next semester. Remember when I tried getting a jump on my books earlier in the month? Yeah, turns out the books I bought — both of ‘em — were actually for minimester’s Film & Lit. Alas! Anyway, so I got all of my books for my classes: Intro to Mythology; Film & Lit; History of the English Language; and Traditions and Forms in Short Stories.

Anyway, these are my books:

springbooks

Can you guess how much I spent on them? I’ll kiss the person who guesses closest, but I do have one rule: men ain’t allowed to guess. Thanks!

BSG 3×11 - “Rapture”/Gah, no snow!

I gotta say, the return from the mid-season cliffhanger, and its immediate resolve, always leaves a little something wanting. In this case, launch of Galactica’s six nuclear missiles is aborted when five of the six Cylon raiders turn back. Turns out the Cylons on the command ship aren’t happy only five turned back, either, and their discussion of the apparently rogue D’Anna models sounds almost frattish: “We don’t even know them anymore!” Things aren’t going better elsewhere, either — the showdown between Lee Adama and Anders ends only when Lee orders his wife to attempt to rescue Kara Thrace. Dualla doesn’t seem too happy about this development.

Back on Galactica, Sharon wants to attempt a rescue attempt of her and Helo’s Roslin/Cylonnapped child, Hera (Spaceamber Alert?) from the clutches of the vile Cylons. Problem is, the only way for Sharon to get aboard the Cylon ship is for Helo to shoot her. Kapow! Best moment so far? Helo reproaching Roslin for her role in “bringing us to this moment.” Of course, Roslin’s got ice-water in her veins and shoots back a retort for both Helo and Adama. Ah, politicking.

The episode felt oddly paced – I get they had a lot to fit in, but the end just came punch-pow-swing. Now that we’re off the algae planet, hopefully we’ll get back into more character/survival adrift stories that seemed to mark the first two seasons and have been largely, in my mind, absent
so far in this season.

Questions: Were there Cylons already on the planet before the heavy raiders triggered Adama’s near launch of his nuclear payload? I ask because its possible the events on the planet aren’t synchronized perfectly with the events in space, but I didn’t have a chance to catch-up on the earlier episode to remind myself.

Is it just me, or is Baltar looking a lot like Jesus Christ as he tries to implore D’Anna to “trust in god”? Mind you, the Cylons in this show are the monotheists — the humans have lots of gods (i.e., “Gods help us”)

It’s snowing out. I hate the snow. Well, no, I don’t hate the snow, I’d just like it a lot more if my job didn’t involve driving a sports car around in the snow for lousy tips. Thankfully, the new guy at work was willing to cover my late shift so I could bug out before the roads got much worse - instead of leaving at nineish, I left at five thirtish.

My big fear, though, hasn’t been skidding off the road or being hit by a reckless moron who forgets his brakes don’t work as well as wet-snow-slicked roads as they do on dry roads. No, my big fear is that Towson University might close early or altogether tomorrow, meaning our last minimester class before the final would be finito.
