It’s been, what, two months since David Wu accused the White House of being filled with “faux Klingons”? Anyways, the Klingons just won’t get out of the news, it seems.
When you’ve got your website available in Finnish, Swedish, and English, you might as well have it available in Klingonese, too:
A Finnish member of parliament is aiming for re-election by campaigning with a translation of his Web site into Klingon, used in the TV series Star Trek.
“Some have thought it is blasphemy to mix politics and Klingon,” said Jyrki Kasvi, an ardent Trekkie. “Others say it is good if politicians can laugh at themselves.”
He said his politics posed some translation difficulties, since Klingon does not have words for matters such as tolerance, or for many colors, including green — the party under whose banner he is running in the national elections on March 18.
Don’t laugh (too loud): during the 2004 Presidential Race here in the United States, I blogged about a rather unique group of Kerry supporters: Klingons! If Klingons could be in The White House, and for John Kerry, couldn’t they also support Kasvi? Why not!
HT: Second Effort.
PS - ever see a photo of Condi Rice frowning? It looks like she’s got forehead ridges — Wu might’ve been on to something!)
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a full episode of “Prison Break”, but I bet you Lane Garrison is wishing he was paying more attention to how got broken out of prison in the first place.
Prison Break actor Lane Garrison was charged Thursday with manslaughter and drunken driving for a crash that killed a 17-year-old boy in his car.
The 26-year-old actor was charged with felony vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony driving under the influence causing injury to multiple victims, felony driving with a blood-alcohol level above the .08% legal limit causing injury, and a misdemeanor count of furnishing alcohol to a minor.
He could face up to six years and eight months in prison if convicted.
His attorney, Harland Braun, said Garrison “has a deep sense of responsibility” and indicated a plea bargain was in the works.
Garrison is “going to accept responsibility for his conduct. The only question is what is that level of responsibility,” he said.
Garrison was behind the wheel of a 2001 Land Rover that jumped a curb while doing about 50 mph and struck a tree on Dec. 2, police said.
I hope he paid attention on the show when “avoiding ass raping” was in the scripts, too, because, um, yeah.
Because I haven’t yet mentioned it on my blog, here’s a belated and much-overdue “thank you” to Geisha for ferrying me all around Towson and Timonium on Thursday — from Brooks-Huff to Towson and back again. It could quite accurately be said that she “saved my keister.” I’m sure she regretted her kind act the following day when her own car … well, it’s best to read the tale on her own blog.
