I woke up with a sore throat, so before begining cleaning, I decided to drive down to the nearest grocery store for some orange juice, which is soothing for a sore throat. To get to the grocery store — not the Gucci Giant, the Padonia Mars — I have to pass Dulaney High, and imagine my surprise to see police cars and police Cherokees, firetrucks, and hundreds of students milling around the school’s grounds. As soon as I got home, I looked up WBAL.com to see what was going on.
“School Evacuated After Report Of Chemical Mix.”
A teacher was taken Friday to a hospital, suffering from dizziness, and authorities evacuated Dulaney High School after a report that a mixture of a gas and alcohol affected a portion of the school.
The incident was reported just before 8 a.m., said Sgt. John Young of the Baltimore County Police Department.
Firefighters found an unknown liquid in a trash can exuding an odor they could not immediately identify, said Pierce Jones, a spokesman for the Baltimore County Fire Department.
The ill teacher was taken to a local hospital, Jones said. No other injuries were reported.
The fire department’s hazardous materials team and members of the county police bomb squad were on the scene as a precaution, Jones said.
Lovely.

Need some NYQUIL? I have quite a bit leftover from my last bout with virus/sore throat/whatever.

I hope your sore throat isn’t the start of something serious.
I also hope the Dulaney HS situation wasn’t too serious and that teacher is okay. There were many bomb threats to my high school, esp. the spring of my sr. year, but none were ever a true threat. Many in fact were called in by my fellow students on nice days, so we could all hang out on the football field.

Hot tea always helps me when I have a sore throat. Hope it feels better.
Hopefully no one is seriously hurt by the chemical incident.

Interesting. I just watched the CSI episode last night, in which a teen boy put sodium into a shower head, which caused an explosion that led to the death of a popular girl.
The things these kids are learning these days.
All I ever did was pick my nose and eat glue.
I hope you’re feeling better!
