I’m considering beginning “PayPerPost” on this blog as a way to help pay off some of my debts. While I’ve registered for the service (although, beyond that, I’m not quite sure how to go about it), I’m still on the fence about the whole thing (seriously, how do I find out my Google page rank?).
On one hand, there’s something artificial about the whole deal. If I wouldn’t write a post about something when I was wasn’t being paid to write about it, then do I really have any business talking about it for cash?
On the other hand, if I’m disclosing that something is a paid post, does that make it okay?
And how is this type of posting different then, say, Ron Smith or a radio jockey promoting a product that they’ve been paid to promote?
If I do decide to do it, I’ll be removed from the Baltimore blog aggregator Blogtimore, in terms with that site’s policy. That was a big drawback when I first considered doing “sponsored” posts, but if I put being listed on Blogtimore on a scale with “Paying off Debts” on the other, which would weigh out the other? I’m pretty sure “Paying off Debts” would trump.
What do you think about blogs that do sponsored posts? What would you think about me and this blog if I began doing sponsored posts?
