Robbed At (Klingon) Sword Point

Filed under: Uncategorized — MalSnay @ 9:45 am

I shouldn’t laugh — armed robbery is serious — but this is awesome:

Colorado Springs police are looking for a man who hit two 7-Eleven convenience stores early Wednesday, armed with a Klingon sword inspired by the Star Trek science fiction series.

The first robbery was reported at 1:50 a.m., at 145 N Spruce St. The clerk told police a white male in his 20s, wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and wearing a black mask, entered the store with a sword…

Both clerks described the weapon as a Star Trek Klingon type sword, called a “Batleth.”

Neither clerk was injured in the robberies.

It’s a nasty looking sword, too:

Continuing with the integration of Klingon society into human society — Klingon is, in fact, a fully developed language — comes Klingon sports, too: Bat’leth tournaments, available to view — and no doubt laugh at — over YouTube.

And, for those who are curious …

I am guilty as charged. But, it’s, uh, Qapla’.

(Apparently, people use them as weapons in Britain, too).

There’d Be Porn on My iPod, Captain, Sir!

As you might be aware, I became a convert to portable music devices at Christmastime, when my folks gifted me with an iPod Nano. I will only say that I am a complete and total addict. I love this little slim thing, and I’m amazed how rapidly I’m filling it up with music: admittedly, most of what I listen to is either 80s music or orchestral scores — John Williams holds a place of honor in my music library.

Since my hours have been cut greatly at the Bookstore (as have everyone’s), I spent some time last weekend figuring out how to edit song file information. I’m — admittedly — a fan of BitTorrent, and some of my downloads have had some really messy song info, where artist, album, and track title have all been in the “title” label. I’m messy, but I also like organization (messization?), so in the process of going through and editing this information so that I can find the songs easily either by song name, or artist, or album, I realized that I could add artwork: previously, I had one song — out of 600! — with art.

The last couple of nights, since I’m not running around helping people look for books, I’ve spent my time adding art to my iPod library. While for a lot of songs I just right-clicked “save” on the Amazon artwork to use for that particular album, in some cases, I started using Google’s image search for some more obscure stuff: a swimming albino tiger fills my iPod screen for Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger”, a painting of Freddie Mercury for my Queen Live! album tracks, and an Obama-Hopeish Bill Adama for some Battlestar Galactica tracks.

And then I did a search for Survivor’s “I Can’t Hold Back.”

Wow.
