The Coop

I love the architecture of the Harvard Coop, but it really does have a Barnes & Noble sensibility — and an atrocious sci-fi section!

Boston’s hot. Leaving the store, we got caught in a shower. Many people in Cambridge — we included — remarked “This feels good!”

Casey Anthony’s Jury of her Peers

Filed under: Uncategorized — MalSnay @ 11:36 am

I am composing this from my iPhone, so I will be brief.

I served on a jury. It was one of the most stressful periods of my life because the consequence of We, The Jury of His Peers had in our hands the power to send an innocent man to jail, or put a guilty one back on the streets.

Given the information we had, we made the best decision we could. I do fear that we made the wrong one, and I only hope, if we did, I won’t open the paper one day to read about him hurting someone.

I don’t know how I would live with myself.

But one of the prices we pay for living in a civilized society is participating in government, and through the process of justice known – dreaded – as jury duty.

I can’t know how the Casey Anthony jury reached it’s verdict, but I feel quite strongly that those who’ve never sat a jury can never understand what those who have do.

I also feel quite strongly that those who do not participate in their civic duty of even showing up for jury service have no moral authority whatsoever to question the decision making of those who do, and should just keep their mouths shut.

“Oh. But you seem so composed…”

Filed under: Uncategorized — MalSnay @ 12:32 am

I think the most hilarious thing to happen to me this week has been the woman who, at the Social Media happy hour Thursday night, remarked to me, “Oh, but you seem so composed” after I admitted I was, in fact, pretty plastered.

Checking my tweets for the evening, as I grew progressively drunker and drunker, I was pleased to see my spelling remain intact as well.

Star Trek on Netflix

Filed under: Uncategorized — MalSnay @ 8:08 am

enterprise

It is quite possible I own all of Star Trek.

I mean, on DVD. Although it’d be awesome to own all of the rights to Star Trek as a whole. Anyway. And actually, the previous statement was a lie, as I own no Star Trek: Voyager DVDs. Blech.

Starting today, much of Star Trek is available for streaming on Netflix. Netflix streaming is the new cocaine, people. I’ve been watching episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit like a madman. Anyway, while I probably won’t be watching much streaming Trek – unless the classic series is available with its updated special effects – I have previously written some “Best of” and “Worst of” posts regarding the assorted series, and here they are:

The Best Morality Plays of Classic Trek
The Best Episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation
The Worst Episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation
The Best Episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Enjoy! Or, y’know – don’t.
